Dig it?

I know it’s been a few weeks since I’ve had any updates on the farmhouse.  Not to say it hasn’t been busy over there, but it’s the kind of work that I have nothing to do with.  It’s also the kind of work that started with one thing but led to four others.  They’ve had floors torn out, jackhammers under the house, trenchers in the yard and all sorts of other fun stuff.

Turns out the former septic system was junk, so we’re having to tap into city sewers.  NOT cheap.  This is also why my yard is trenched up.  It looks like moles gone wild.  We have two wells on the property and turns out the first one is bad, so we’re resorting to the second one which is impressively over 200′ deep.  (Timmy, don’t fall in.)

We did manage to finally burn down the old barn.  It took two massive bonfires.  The barn was torn down before we bought the house, but they just left it.  It was also full of termites, so it HAD to go.

I’m taking advantage of all the pine trees on the property and collecting fantastic pine cones for Christmas decorations.  The kids like helping me gather them.  I’m probably going to trim some branches and use them as well.  They’re the type with the nice, wispy needles.  Use them if you’ve got them, eh?

Our original goal on fully moving in was late November, but that’s not going to happen.  If I had to guess, I’d say we’ll be fully moved in by January.  No worries though, we’re not being pushed into a rush on this project, unlike our current/previous home where we HAD to do a complete remodel in 6 weeks – insanity.  We’ll get there.

LOVE IT! Frugal Ingenuity

I wanted to share another blog I was reading this morning.  I’m always preaching “frugal ingenuity” to my clients on how to improve and remodel homes on the cheap.  With a little know-how and resources, you can do a lot for your home.  Retrorenovation.com posted a fantastic example of it.
